Sami is a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College's Art of Teaching masters program. She holds her BA in natural science and visual arts from Sarah Lawrence in addition to her MS Ed in early childhood and childhood education. With a background in progressive education and a strong belief in developmentally appropriate and authentic teaching she enjoys building and teaching in classroom environments that support and intrigue a wide range of learners. Sami's greatest priority as an educator is instilling a life long love of learning. She believes that children should be taught how to become learners and makers of their own knowledge.
The best learning happens in places where children feel safe to take risks, making it of utmost importance to support social/emotional needs and build a classroom community based on mutual respect. Sami loves to teach through projects and long-term emergent curriculum studies that let children get their hands dirty. This portfolio is a collection of some of the exciting projects Sami has enjoyed working on with her students over the past five years. |
